Fractional laser is an advanced skin resurfacing procedure that softens wrinkles, diminishes scars and repairs sun damaged skin by stimulating collagen production and cell renewal. Our state-of-the-art fractionated laser, uses precise ‘micro beam’ technology to penetrate into the deepest layers of your skin for the most effective, safe and long-term results.

Frequently Asked Questions
If needed, prior to the treatment topical numbing cream is applied to the skin and is left on for 20 to 30 minutes, (you can have the option to have Fractionated laser without topical numbing if you have a good tolerance to the sensation). The fractionated laser treatment itself takes 60 to 75 minutes for a full face treatment.
During the fractional laser treatment you may experience a combination of a pins-and-needle, hot prickling and warming sensations. If topical anaesthetic is used, the skin can still feel slightly numb post treatment for up to 4 hours.
Our prices are based on 2 thorough passes of the skin so that not area is left untreated, additional passes for deeper wrinkles or scarring may be recommended upon consultation at an additional price.
Unlike other non-ablative fractionated lasers like Fraxel which are not suitable for dark skin types, our Emerge 810nm wavelength provides superior tissue coagulation without the attraction to dark skin types. This is what sets our fractionated laser apart from the others and makes this skin resurfacing treatment safe for all skin colours. In fact, it is the only fractional laser for the face and body that offers both excellent results and rapid recovery for dark skin types.
You can expect localised temporary redness, warmth and swelling a few days after your laser treatment. Some clients may experience some dryness or mild crusting along with some temporary darkening of the skin after resurfacing. Regular moisturising will help alleviate this, do not scrub or exfoliate any of the dry skin.
To achieve optimal results a series of 6 treatments are recommended at 4 to 8 week intervals. Your skin will appear fully recovered 1 to 2 weeks after your laser treatment, however it is deep under the skin that needs extra time to heal and repair.
Maintenance treatments are recommended twice per year, however to maintain the healthy functioning of the skin, monthly exfoliating skin treatments should be performed in salon alongside a good skin care routine.
All skin types including dark skin types are suitable for this laser resurfacing treatment, as long as a skin lightening cream is used. Lactating women can have Fractional Laser if no topical anaesthetic is applied.
Fractional Laser is not recommended for pregnant women, epilepsy sufferers, autoimmune disorders or clients undergoing cancer treatment.
There are 6 different levels of intensity chosen depending on the individual skin type and concern. Fractionated laser creates columns of injury within the deeper layers of the skin which then stimulates new collagen and elastin fibres. The higher the intensity or level the more micro columns are made within the skin and the higher the energy. Your dermal therapist will choose an intensity level to suit your tolerance, skin type, down time and concerns.
Using a regular at home AHA/BHA cream and Vitamin A serum will prepare your skin prior to your treatment and help to achieve an even and effective treatment. Any dark skin types or people prone to hyperpigmentation are required to be using a skin lightening cream at least 2 week prior to your treatment and throughout the course, to help avoid any complications.
Unlike ablative fractionated lasers, like Erbium or CO2, our non-ablative Emerge Fractional Laser does not ablate and remove the skin. Instead the diode laser heats the columns of skin to 72 degrees to provide results with no downtime, compared to ablative fractionated laser treatments. The side effects and complications associated with ablative lasers are not relevant with non-ablative laser treatments.
Ideally Fractionated Laser is for the concern of;
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Volume loss
- Stretch marks
- Uneven skin texture
- Open pores
- Surgical scar revision
Don’t trust your skin with just anyone! When choosing a cosmetic treatment - always look for someone who is experienced with relevant training and a successful reputation. Do not base decisions regarding laser treatments, solely on price, as a poorly performed treatment will cost you more in the long run. At best you will experience little to no results and worst case you may end up with permanent scarring. Laser treatments are serious and need to be treated as such. All our machines have been TGA and FDA approved and only qualified Cosmetic Dermal Therapists operate this equipment.
