Frequently Asked Questions
The Aesthetic Lounge utilises a Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser for Tattoo Removal.
It effectively works at removing unwanted tattoos by delivering specific deep wavelengths of light at ultra-fast repetition rates to the target area, via acoustic energy.
Once this light enters the deeper layers of the skin, it penetrates, shatters and breaks down the colour of the ink in the tattoo. These shattered tiny particles of ink are then able to be absorbed by the body and eliminated via your immune systems natural processes.
Ordinarily, the pigment particles within the tattoo are too large for the body's immune system to remove, therefore making it permanent. By shattering them into smaller particles with the Q-switched laser, the body is able to effectively remove them.
Laser Tattoo removal is suitable for most skin types, including darker and tanned skin.
A Skin Consultation with one of our Dermal Clinicians will ensure a personalised treatment and product program is created to specifically target your Tattoo Removal goals.
Laser Tattoo Removal treatments are not recommended for anyone who is epileptic, pregnant, undergoing cancer treatment, has an autoimmune disease or a recent tattoo in the treatment area.
Laser Tattoo Removal treatments achieve amazing results however, they are serious treatments and therefore the skin must be prepared adequately and cared for correctly post treatment to achieve the best results and minimise risk and downtime.
Tattoo Removal effectively treats:
- Black Tattoo's
- Coloured Tattoo's
- Tattoo fading in preparation for a cover-up
Laser Tattoo Removal treatments have a feeling of warmth and a pins and needles or flicking type sensation on the skin.
All of our tattoo removal treatments include Cryo Jet cooling, which blasts super chilled -30 degree air to cool the deep layers of the skin. As the treatment itself takes only seconds to perform, clients find it tolerable.
Topical anaesthetic can also be applied 45mins-1hr prior to your treatment to aid in numbing the area to be treated.
Your Laser Tattoo Removal treatment will include:
- Treatment area is swabbed and cleaned
- A quick test patch to assess the most suitable settings to treat you on
- Cryo Jet cold air machine super cools the skin before, during and after your treatment
- Laser is pulsed methodically over the tattoo, this feels like the snapping of elastic bands on the skin, as the session time is short (between 2-10 minutes) it is tolerable
- The treated area is dressed with a sterile silicon gel to further cool and heal the skin. A clear plastic covering will be applied if it's on a body area
After your tattoo removal treatment care should be taken to minimise possible complications and aid in your skins recovery for up to 3 weeks. This includes:
- Keeping the area clean
- No exfoliating or scrubbing treatments over the treated area
- Avoiding sun exposure, swimming pools and the ocean
- Applying a thin layer of your silicon gel daily until the area is completely healed
- If a scab forms it is imperative that you do not pick it
Although Q-Switched laser treatments require several sessions to successfully remove or fade a tattoo, they have the greatest chance of returning your skin to its previous state in comparison to the other methods of tattoo removal.
Normally greater than 95% fading of a tattoo can be accomplished. It is however difficult to give an exact number of treatments a tattoo will need before achieving the desired level or removal due to many variances such;
- Skin colour
- The type of ink used
- Ink colours used
- How deep the ink was applied into the skin
- The age of the tattoo
- Any existing scarring
- Who has tattooed the ink into your skin and how they tattooed it
- The body area that has been tattooed also contributes to how well the ink responds
A Skin Consultation with one of our Dermal Clinicians will ensure a personalised treatment and product program is created to specifically target your Tattoo Removal goals and give you a specific timeline of treatments based on the background of your tattoo.
